Week Update #1

Hey guys!
This post is going to be where I tell you all what I did on each day of my half term, which might give you some inspiration if you’re feeling bored in your holidays!
Monday
So on Monday I went to town with two friends, to see a movie 🙂 we saw The Theory Of Everything and I really liked it – Eddie Redmayne was phenomenal – and afterwards I had a cheeky little trip to Boots… I only got one thing which, if you read my latest post, you will know I have been loving is *drum roll*

Maybelline Dream Pure BB Cream

Maybelline BB Cream
I bought this having seen it used in a Jennifer Fix video, who has an amazing YouTube channel, and then I looked at various reviews and the combination of lightweight and salicylic acid made it perfect for me! So far I am super happy with this BB Cream, and if you want full details then read my BB Cream comparison post 🙂
We also took a little trip to H&M and having heard pretty good things about their Makeup Sponge I thought £1.99 wasn’t going to hurt. It’s a cute pink makeup sponge, which is supposedly a dupe for a Beauty Blender and the Real Techniques Sponge.

So far, I really like this sponge. It blends the bb cream effortlessly into the skin, giving you a flawless finish. It doesn’t absorb and product, and overall, I really like it 🙂

Tuesday

So, on Tuesday I went into town with a friend, and both of our french exchanges (I will do a post about the french exchange soon 😉 ) , and we went shopping and ice skating. We took a little trip to Lush, and I wasn’t going to buy anything until I saw this.

Lush’s Limited Edition Unicorn Horn Bubble Bar.

I would have linked the page on Lush, but sadly it’s gone, as it was for Valentine’s Day. I had to buy this because if you know me at all, you will know that by day, I’m an awkward teenager, and by night, I’m a unicorn *evil laughs* it smells amazing of lavender, and makes your bath go a pastel lilac, and smells divine.

I also got a cheeky phone case, with a unicorn on it… £1 from Primark thank you very muchIMG_1568

Ice skating was so much fun, even though I was completely awful at it, and it was a really great day 🙂

Wednesday

So on Wednesday I didn’t do a lot, but I did go to the park with a friend which was really nice 🙂

Thursday

Today I went into town (I don’t normally go into town 3 times a week) with 5 of my best friends. We are in a Duke Of Edinburgh group together – if you live outside the UK you won’t have heard of D of E, if you want to read about it here’s a lovely little link (alliteration 😉 ): D of E We all went into town and did a little bit of cheeky shopping, and one of the places we visited was Boots. As you all know, I LOVE BOOTS ❤ I am a bit obsessed with makeup and Boots is makeup heaven. (If you’re from America it’s basically a drugstore that does high-end, and low-end makeup, health things and lots of other lovely things) And, I had been looking for a felt liner for a while so I got this:

Collection Extreme 24hr Felt Tip Liner in Black

It costs £2.99 in Boots and Superdrug, and having tested it today, I really love it (review coming soon)

We also built a bear…

I know this is a pretty random post, almost like a diary entry, and let me know if you liked it! 🙂

BB Cream Comparison

Hey Guys!

Today I have my first beauty post on my blog! Exciteeeedddd

So, I am going to be comparing two BB Creams today, The Body Shop All In One BB Cream and Maybelline Dream Pure BB CreamThe aspects which I will be comparing are Shade Range, Coverage , Pros and Cons, and Overall.

Info:

Maybelline BB Cream

Maybelline Dream Pure BB Cream

Price: £6.99

My shade: Light

Where you can buy it in the UK: Boots, Superdrug, Online

Body Shop BB Cream

The Body Shop All-In-One BB Cream

Price: £12.00

My Shade: 01 (Lighter)

Where to Buy in the UK: In-store in the body shop, or body shop website.

Shade Range.

Maybelline: The shade range for this BB Cream is pretty limited, as BB Creams tend to be. There is Light, and Medium. Luckily for me, Light matches me perfectly, however not everyone is so lucky. If you have Porcelain or Ivory skin, this product won’t be for you, as Light will be too dark. And, on the other end of the spectrum, if you have dark skin, then Medium will still be too light.

Body Shop: So in this range there are 5 shades. 00 (Fair), 01 (Lighter), 02 (Medium), 03 (Darker), 04 (Dark). This is a pretty good range, for a BB Cream. Also, this BB Cream comes out of the tube white, and when you rub it in, it claims to adapt to your skin tone. I don’t think this is 100% true. Yes, it does appear to adapt, but still my BB Cream has an orangey tone, and rubbing it into my pale skin has no effect.

Winner = Body Shop

Coverage

Maybelline: I would say that the coverage for this BB Cream is pretty light. Obviously this is what you would expect from a BB Cream, and if you wanted heavier coverage then you would choose a foundation. Even though the coverage is pretty light, it definitely blurs imperfections and evens out skin tone, as it says on the tube.  Overall, pretty impressed with the coverage.

Body Shop: The coverage of this BB Cream is definitely light too, however I found it a bit patchy, and not as even as the Maybelline one. The fact that it is orange doesn’t really help, but I still wasn’t very impressed with the coverage.

Winner = Maybelline

Pros and Cons

Maybelline

Pros:

  • Pretty Cheap and Easily Accessible
  • Great Coverage
  • Lightweight
  • Contains Salicylic Acid which helps Acne

Cons:

  • Limited shade range
  • Specifically for acne-prone skin so not universal

Body Shop

Pros:

  • Wide shade range
  • ‘Adapts’ to skin tone

Cons:

  • Pricey
  • Only available at TBS (The Body Shop not Thomas Brodie Sangster)
  • Patchy coverage
  • Dodgy shades (Orange)
  • Flakes.

Overall

Overall my favorite is:

The Maybelline BB Cream

It has great, even coverage, gives you a matte finish, helps with acne, and it’s dirt cheap at £6.99

Let me know if you guys like this type of post, (Beauty Comparison), and I’ll see you soon!

Dealing with Acne

Hello everyone!

Today I’m doing a slightly different post to what you might be expecting. The title ‘Dealing with Acne’ suggests I would tell you about cleansers, washes, wipes, foundations, concealers and all the rest. But today I’m going to talk about the effect that acne can have on you as a person. One quote that helped me to deal with it was:

Your skin doesn’t define you. – Zoella

This is so true. It’s easy to feel like if you have bad skin, then you’re unhealthy and disgusting (Little bit of exaggeration but go with it. 😉 ) And another thing that doesn’t help, is the mass of urban myths surrounding acne and skin problems.

1. EATING GREASY FOOD HAS NO EFFECT ON ACNE.

I know lots of you won’t believe this but my GP said that there have been no scientific studies to prove that what you eat, affects your skin. This particular myth was made up by teenagers of parents who wanted their kids to stop eating pizza, and chocolate.

2. People who have acne are unhygienic

Ok, so I like to think of myself as a clean person. I wash my hands a lot, I shower everyday, and I always have hand sanitizer in my bag. However, I have acne. I use a facial scrub, cleanser and all the rest every day, and I still have acne. It’s taken me a long time to realise that you can have all the acne products in the world, and just might not work. Acne is hormonal. It comes from under your skin, from things in your brain which I don’t really know that much about so I’m not going to pretend to. Society needs to understand that some people, can’t help that they have acne. And if you ever see someone with acne, and you think ‘That’s so gross’ or ‘(S)he’s so disgusting’ please, think before you judge.

A tip for any fellow acne-sufferers, just know that it will get better. Your skin won’t always look like it does now, and when it does, you will be just as beautiful as you always have been, just it’ll be easier for everyone to recognise.

Lots of love, Rosie May xx
